Sylvia Miehm
I met Sylvia Miehm during the pandemic, just as the lockdowns were beginning to lift. We were all navigating the transition back to a semi-normal life. My longtime hair stylist had decided to retire and I found myself grappling with a rather unfortunate case of COVID hair. Fortunately, a friend recommended Sylvia.
Recently, Sylvia was diagnosed with a rare disease called AL Amyloidosis, which has put her face-to-face with one of the biggest challenges of her life.
To help her during this difficult time, Sylvia’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her while she undergoes treatment. If you’d like to contribute, click here to make a donation.
From our very first conversation, it was clear that Sylvia was a cut above the rest (so to speak). Her conversations as she tamed my hair over a number visits were refreshing, setting her apart from the typical exchanges one might encounter in a salon.
I recorded this interview with her November 3, 2024.
Sylvia has a genuine commitment to fostering connections within the community. She championed local events and businesses; she’s up on local news; her opinions are informed by a wide range of sources.
Most importantly Sylvia greets each day as an opportunity filled with hope and potential – a chance for growth and transformation.
In EPISODE #6, the last one in the “How they Light Gets In” series, Sylvia embraces both the beauty and sadness of everyday life. She reminds us that we’re stronger together, and that by reaching out to one another, we can create lasting change.
Let me know in the comments how you find light, love, and joy in your life.
